WHY NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) IN BUSINESS?

As more and more of our interactions happen digitally, we will continue to experience new forms of miscommunication and misunderstanding. The solution will not come from new technologies. Instead, the solution is in understanding the new rules of engagement and in building a communication skill set that reflects the demands of our digitally-driven age.

This increase in digital cross-cultural communication which fuels an increase in miscommunication and misunderstanding is further exacerbated by the diversity essential to innovation. Authentic Innovation is to question the status quo, to think differently about creating and receiving ecological value. Inclusive diversity not only contributes to richer thinking and thus richer ideas for value creation, it also means an increase in misunderstanding and miscommunication, counterproductive to innovation. Communication is essential to innovation.

In addition to being an essential component of innovation, communication breaks down silos moving companies far more speedily towards their goals. Communication enables a leader to paint a more compelling vision for staff to move towards, it connects leaders and teams in a way that moves more energy towards that vision, it boosts sales, aids negotiation and enhances presentations.

Results confirmed that communication indeed played a critical role in building successful teams. Results further showed that patterns of communication were the most important predictors of a team’s success. A team’s energy and engagement outside of formal meetings explained one-third of the variations in profit productivity among groups.

WHAT IS NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) IN BUSINESS?

If communication significantly impacts profit it is important to understand what specifically the definition of communication is. Communication occurs in 3 parts – the mode of communication, the content of the communication and was it understood by the recipient. IF YOUR COMMUNICATION WAS NOT UNDERSTOOD BY THE RECIPIENT YOU DID NOT COMMUNICATE. It is key to thus communicate in the language of the recipient and not your own language. It is a long-established fact that words convey just 7% of meaning in communication. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the other 93% of communication. NLP is a system for understanding, changing and thus mastering both verbal and nonverbal communication as well as internal and external communication, within yourself and others.

NEURO: refers to your neurology or more specifically how your neurology creates your state and thus drives your behaviour and your behaviour is what determines your results. NLP training empowers you to have better control of your state, your behaviour and therefore your results.

LINGUISTIC: refers to our verbal and nonverbal communication both internally within us and externally with others. Our neurologically once triggered into a mind/body state, communicates that state internally and externally fuelling behaviour and results.

PROGRAMMING: refers to our unconscious or habitual thoughts, feelings, reactions, beliefs and traditions which govern 95-97% of our day impacting our neurology and communication.
